System Modeling Techniques <Idea>

One technique for modeling systems is using stocks and flows as is done by isee systems.  http://www.iseesystems.com/

Agent based modeling is a common technique for modeling complex systems where your are looking for emergent properties.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agent_based_model

We think that the new virtual worlds created on the internet and played by 100's of thousands of people (such as 2nd life) will offer new opportunities for agent based modeling of economies, political structures and cultures.   2nd life already has its own currency and economy.

Since the agents are real people, you can run experiments and simulate models where complex adaptive agent behavior is required.  It also automatically brings the human element with all it's adaptability and limitations into whatever system you are modeling.
